Author Matthew Desmond Visits GHS

March 10th 2017
 
Through the efforts of Mrs. Roberts, Multnomah County Library and many other local organizations, best selling author Matthew Desmond came to Gresham High to speak to our students about his book Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City. Mr. Desmond spoke to students in our library about his work and his writing process. See below for pictures of this special event.

Great Books at the Movies Contest 2016!

November 2016




 
To celebrate the release of the big-screen adaptations of Miss Peregrine's Home From Peculiar Children, The Fifth Wave, and A Monster Calls our Library will be holding a contest giveaway of the original books that these three block-buster movies are based on plus one special prize.

 
The four prizes include:

One special movie edition of Ransom Riggs Miss Peregrine's Home From Peculiar Children

One special movie edition of Rick Yancey's The Fifth Wave

One copy of Patrick Ness' A Monster Calls

and...

One autographed hardback edition of Veronica Roth's Divergent signed by Ms Roth herself!


To enter the contest, you just need to checkout any print book or magazine from the Library during  November. Each time you checkout items from the Library, you’ll get a chance to fill out an entry ticket for the contest. The official drawing for the prizes will be held on Thursday, December 1st, so get down to the Library and checkout a great book today!




 
GHS Library Celebrates Veterans' Day

 Gresham High staff and their relatives share their experiences as veterans of the United States Armed Forces. This special display of service memorabilia and photos was made possible by donations from our wonderful staff. This year's contributors include Mr. Brittain, Mr. Mayner, Mr. Jacobsen and Mr. Wong. Banned Books Week Display

September 25th - October 1st 2016




 
For those of you who don't know, this Sept 25th through Oct 1st is national Banned Books Week. Begun in 1982, this is an annual event that celebrates the freedom to read and calls attention to the attempts to deny access to books at libraries around the nation. You can see the display in the Library and pick up your own "I Read Banned Books" pin in the Library during this week. If you are looking to do some after-hours reading, our Gresham High School Library has great eBooks available all-year-round! Through a grant from the Gresham Barlow Education Foundation, our GHS Library added over 50 new eBooks this summer to push our eBook collection to over 600 eBook titles available for student and staff use. New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth visited Gresham High School on February 29th 2016! Creator of the wildly popular Divergent series of young adult novels, Ms. Roth held a presentation/Q&A session in our auditorium with our students and staff. Ms. Roth shared her insights on the writing process and the need to be persistent when pursuing your dreams and aspirations. See below for images of Ms. Roth's visit to Gresham High!
